USA 1992-2004 Happy New Year!

This set of 12 Happy New Year stamps from USA were designed by Clarence Lee from Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 1992, Lee was asked to design a New Year stamp commemorating the contributions of Chinese-Americans in the USA. The stamp depicts a Chinese paper cutting of a Rooster (which symbolises the Year of the Rooster in Chinese Lunar Calendar) was released on Dec 30 1992. Following the overwhelming success of this stamp release, the US Postal Service commissioned Lee to design the next 11 stamps of the series. The Rooster stamp marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year stamp series, with Monkey the last in the series (released on Jan 13, 2004).

To close this award-winning stamp series, a Souvenir Sheet featuring all 12 individual New Year stamps (37¢) was released on Jan 6, 2005.

First day covers and stamp sheets here signed by the stamp designer, Clarence Lee.
